As you prepare for the arrival of your little bundle of joy, one important task on your to-do list is packing your hospital bag when you go to your delivery hospital for birthing. It might seem like a small detail, but having the right essentials can make a huge difference in your comfort and overall experience during labour and birthing. 

To help you feel fully prepared, we’ve put together a list of items that Aastrika suggests and recommends bringing with you in your delivery bag. Let’s dive into what you should pack to ensure you feel ready, relaxed, and empowered on your big day!

Documents for Admission

First things first, let’s make sure you have all your important documents ready. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • ID Proof of Mother: A government-issued ID is a must!
  • ID Proof of Father: Don’t forget your partner’s ID.
  • Insurance e-card (if applicable): If you’re using insurance, have this on hand.
  • PAN Card of the insurer: In case it’s needed for insurance purposes.
  • Latest ultrasound scan copy: This can come in handy in case needed for insurance purpose

Labour Essentials:

Labour can be unpredictable, so let’s make sure you’re prepared for comfort and relaxation:

  1. Preferred music playlist + speaker: Set the vibe with your favourite tunes!
  2. Juices and other drinks: A little extra hydration never hurt anyone, right? (Aastrika has drink options, but you might have your favourites so don’t forget to carry those!)
  3. Snacks: Energy is key, so pack your favourite snacks to keep you going
  4. Aromatherapy scents: If you love essential oils, you can bring them along. Feel free to enjoy them during birthing!
  5. Sipper bottle: Hydration, hydration, hydration
  6. Loose sleeveless t-shirts, Sports bras (vests) for water birth: Have 3-4 ready for a relaxing and comfortable water birth experience

For the Mom-to-Be: Keep Calm and Pack Comfort

You’ll want to be comfortable and feel at home during your stay, so here’s what to bring:

  1. Soft, loose nightgowns or night shirts (3-4): Opt for comfort over style
  2. XL napkins (maternity pads): These are a must for the days after delivery
  3. Nursing bras (2-3): Easy access and comfort for nursing
  4. Hair ties: Because let’s face it, things can get a bit hectic!
  5. Slippers: Cosy feet are happy feet
  6. Toiletries: Toothbrush, toothpaste, face wash—you know the drill!
  7. Socks: Keep your feet warm and cosy
  8. Comfortable front-open dress (2-3): Perfect for breastfeeding, easy to change in and out of
  9. Routine medicines: Don’t forget your usual medicines!
  10. Medical reports: Keep all necessary reports handy for the doctors

Baby’s First Packing List

Your little one will need a few things too, so here’s a quick list:

  1. Soft towels (3): For all those baby bath times
  2. Newborn diapers (1 packet): Around 30 pieces should do the trick
  3. Infant dresses (4-5): Make sure they’re cute but functional!
  4. Onesies (3-5): A must-have for your newborn’s wardrobe
  5. Mittens (3-5): To keep those tiny hands warm and safe
  6. Socks (3-5): We don’t want the baby’s feet getting cold
  7. Wet wipes (2 packets): Non-perfumed, water-based is best for baby’s sensitive skin
  8. Soft caps (3-5): For that cute newborn look while staying warm
  9. Swaddle cloth (3-5): Perfect for swaddling your little bundle
  10. Baby blanket (1-2): For snuggling

Your Companion’s Survival Kit

Your support person deserves some comfort too:

  1. Toiletries: Don’t forget toothbrush and other personal care items
  2. Sleepwear and clothing: Make sure they’re comfy for their time at the hospital
  3. Towels: Extra towels come in handy
  4. Front-buttoned cotton shirt for skin-to-skin care: Essential for bonding time with the baby

General Guidelines and Recommendations:

Keep it light: Avoid large hard luggage or trolley bags. Soft bags or small cabin bags are your best bet.

Leave valuables at home: Skip the jewellery, cosmetics, perfumes, and balloons. We want to keep things simple and safe!

Baby care: Keep nails short and unpolished to prevent accidental scratches.
